However, the Kilwins name symbolizes more than our wide variety of treats — it encompasses our dedication to perfection. Most of our recipes (like our caramel and Heritage chocolate recipes) haven’t been changed since the mid-1900s. After all, why would we change what’s already perfect? The first Kilwins was opened in 1947 by Don and Katy Kilwin, our founders. Today, we have many more locations in many more states, but our mission remains simple and straightforward: to serve the best confections around.
To us, this is about more than the ingredients we use (although many of our recipes are the same ones developed by our founders). We protect the quality of our candy by using our own temperature-controlled trucks and drivers to transport our products. We carefully monitor everything to make sure nothing compromises our sweets.
Nearly every single one of our products is made by hand. Making hand-paddled chocolate fudge and hand-dropped caramels speaks to our “quality over quantity” values. We’ve found that the quality of handmade confections is immeasurably better than those made in factories.

All of our ice cream flavors are 100 percent Kosher-certified and made with cream sourced from local farmers. Many of our specialty flavors even include high-quality ingredients like nuts, fruit, and our very own Heritage chocolate.
Our secret lies not in our ingredients but in our transportation practices. The key to making the creamiest, smoothest ice cream around is our custom-made ice cream tubs and company-operated transport vehicles. The temperature is closely monitored throughout the entire transport to ensure the ice cream stays as fresh and flavorful as when it left our kitchen.
